Today I arrived in Bonn- all by myself that is. The flight over was fantastic despite the rude egotistical businessman who sat next to me and made a clear effort to not say one word the ENTIRE ten hour flight. You know that was hard for me. Anyways, once I landed there was no admirals club to hang in for four hours because it had shut down so I had such a joyous time figuring out how to entertain myself with a dead iPhone, iPod, and a book. Yes, Nicholas Sparks pulled through. When all technology fails you can always rely on a handy book and pillow.
I finally met up with the group after meeting up at the wrong “meeting point”. Typical me but we rode the most beautiful countryside bus ride two hours from Frankfort into Bonn. THIS CITY IS AMAZING!! Everything is so green and breezy and we walked through the parks and people are just lying on blankets, drinking beer, and hanging out. The total European lifestyle I wouldn’t mind having one bit.
The dorms are…interesting. It’s like we all were given everyone’s left over furniture and then made rooms. Caitlin and I have a kite, yes a kite, in our room- not sure why, along with two half-deflated basketballs. The curtains on the windows don’t cover up much so I guess we will be waking up and running every morning no problem! We decided that Caitlin and I have the most shoes too…go figure! Oh and of course the two girls with the heaviest bags have their room on the second floor. (mine ended up being 72 pounds but we moved to pairs of shoes and got it to 70!)
The town of Bonn is amazing. We learned how to take the subway to the AIB building where we will be having class and we had a southern German meal there. It was delicious. It was some type of beef and pork stew with salad and bread and a yummy berry dessert. After dinner we went to the beer garden that is on the Rhine and I had my FIRST GERMAN BEER! It was super yummy although I do believe I will go darker tomorrow. I stayed on the lighter side to be safe today! Road the subway back without any problems, after Caitlin told me to turn around and go to the other side. Whoops.
Interesting fact: Bonn used to be the capital of Germany and so the the dorms we are currently living in are the apartments are where the old parliament used to come and stay in when they met for a week.
